With grocery store prices climbing — most canned cream soups now cost $1.50 or more — this homemade version is a budget-friendly, whole ingredient lifesaver. One batch makes about 18 servings, and the cost comes out to roughly $0.50–$0.60 per serving. This recipe has no fillers, no mystery ingredients that you can’t pronounce — just powdered milk, herbs, spices, and cornstarch to create that smooth, creamy base you can use in any recipe.
Just whisk ⅓ cup of dry mix with 1 cup of milk or water over low heat, and in minutes you have a thick, creamy, ready-to-use soup base for casseroles, skillet meals, pot pies, dips, and more. It’s convenient, comforting, and tastes like the Southern dishes we grew up on — only fresher and more affordable.
